REVEREND TYRONE CARL PETTY
Reverend Tyrone C. Petty was born in the small town of
Java, Virginia. In 1969 he moved
with his family to the Washington Metropolitan area.
He is a product of the Maryland Public school system where he graduated
from Northwestern High School. After
high school he attended the Computer Technical Institute, Howard University
Institute of Religious Studies, and the University of the District of Columbia.
In May 2004 he earned a Masters of Divinity, from Virginia Union School
of Divinity in Richmond, Virginia.
He is a son of St. Paul Baptist Church of Capitol Heights,
Maryland, where Robert J. Williams, Sr. is Pastor. He was licensed to the preaching ministry in 1984.
In 1989 he became Youth Minister of Antioch Baptist Church of Upper
Marlboro, Maryland. He was ordained
in 1995 and became Pastoral Assistant to Reverend William Thomas, Jr. at
Antioch. In June 2002 he became
Pastor of Antioch accepting the mantle passed down from Pastor Thomas.
He has worked in the areas of Data Entry and Computer
Programming. He taught 10 years in
the District of Columbia Public School System on the elementary level.
He still believes teaching is a part of his ministry. He also led a
Mentoring Program that worked with 5th and 6th grade boys
and girls.
Reverend Petty is a founding member of Alpha Omega Alpha
Christian Fellowship Fraternity, Inc. He
maintains a seat on the Board of Directors for this ministry that reaches out to
young adults all over the Washington area and beyond.
As a member of the fraternity, he has the opportunity to train young
energetic Christians for service in the field of discipleship, missions, and
evangelism. It allows him to work
with youth and young adults throughout the city.
Through this ministry many young people who had lost their hope in Christ
have been restored.
Foremost, he believes that our children are not lost, never
to be found. But instead they are
reaching for someone to take them by the hand and show them the way.
It gives him great pleasure to see a little growth in one who has tried
hard to do well. His joy is found
in Psalm 34:8, “O taste and see that the Lord is good.
Happy is the man who trusts in Him”.
Reverend Petty is married to the former Karen Richards and they reside in Bowie, Maryland.
